The Witcher season 3 is divided into two parts, and here’s everything we know about Part 2. The universe of Netflix’s The Witcher continues its expansion after the animated prequel movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and the prequel miniseries The Witcher: Blood Origin by going back to the main series. The Witcher season 3 is being treated as an event not just because of its story, but because this is the final season with Henry Cavill playing the title witcher, Geralt of Rivia, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role in season 4.

The Witcher season 2 made some controversial changes to the stories of Geralt, Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), but season 3 is being more loyal to the source material. After gaining a bunch of new enemies, The Witcher season 3 sees Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer on the run as they face a variety of threats. The Witcher season 3 Part 1 ended on a major cliffhanger that sets up some big events in Part 2, and here’s everything we know about The Witcher season 3 Part 2.

The Witcher season 3 is following a recent trend on Netflix of splitting a season into two parts, a move recently seen with Stranger Things season 4. Luckily, the streaming giant won’t make viewers wait long to see what will happen to Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, as The Witcher season 3 Part 2 will be released on July 27, a bit over a month after the release of the first part. As for why The Witcher season 3 was split into two parts, it’s most likely a marketing trick, as this being Cavill’s final episodes as Geralt of Rivia has reignited interest and curiosity on the series and his performance, thus making an event out of his final season.

How Many Episodes The Witcher Season 3 Has Left

Netflix’s The Witcher has been consistent in terms of how many episodes each season has had. Season 3 follows the pattern of the previous seasons and has a total of eight episodes, but they weren’t divided equally. The Witcher season 3 part 1 consists of five episodes, while part 2 will bring the remaining three episodes, which will have a lot to cover after the shocking ending of part 1.

The Witcher Season 3, Part 2 Story: What Part 1 Set Up

Although Netflix’s The Witcher has already taken many creative liberties, each season has been based on a different book or story from the series. The Witcher season 1 was based on The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, season 2 was based on Blood of Elves, and season 3 is adapting Time of Contempt. The Witcher season 3 Part 1 set up some major events that Part 2 will have to cover in three episodes, most notably the Thanedd coup. This was an attack between mages during a conclave in Aretuza, which resulted in the deaths of many mages and the Brotherhood of Sorcerers being dissolved.

The Witcher season 3 Part 2 also set up trouble with Redania, as King Vizimir is looking to capture Ciri to marry her and take the throne of Cintra, while Emhyr var Emreis a.k.a. the White Flame continues his search for Ciri, his daughter. The White Flame’s mission was mostly left aside throughout Part 1, so hopefully, the final episodes of The Witcher season 3 will reveal more about his real plans for Ciri and the Continent. In addition to that, the Wild Hunt continues to cross over into the Continent, as they are also looking to capture Ciri, so The Witcher season 3 Part 2 has a lot to cover.
