Stephen Amell Wrestling Show Returns After 2 Year Hiatus

The trailer for Heels season 2 includes an Arrowverse reunion and an appearance by a popular former WWE superstar. Created by Michael Waldron, with Mike O’Malley serving as showrunner, Heels debuted on Starz in August 2021. The series focuses on the family-owned wrestling organization of Duffy Wrestling League (DWL) in the small town of Duffy, Georgia, where brothers and rivals Jack (Stephen Amell) and Ace Spade (Vikings alum Alexander Ludwig) battle over their late father’s legacy and their competing ideas of what the DWL should be. The wrestling drama has experienced a few delays but will finally return with new episodes.

The trailer for Heels season 2, which will debut July 28 on Starz, has been unveiled. Check out the trailer below:

In the trailer, former Arrow star Josh Segarra reunites with Amell. In addition to his recent role in Scream VI, Segarra played Simon Morrison in Amell’s former superhero series and will portray Brooks Rizzo in Heels season 2. AJ Mendez, known for her time as the influential and immensely popular three-time WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee, plays Elle Dorado and pays homage to her time as a former champ. The Umbrella Academy star Emmy Raver-Lampman also joins the ensemble as Jen Lussier.

What To Expect From Heels Season 2

Heels season 2 picks up where the first installment left off. In the aftermath of the strong showing at the South Georgia State Fair, the DWL experiences a jump in popularity. Hoping to make use of these new circumstances, Jack and his cohorts prepare for a possible business deal with a new streaming platform that could raise their profile. But familiar problems arise when Ace leaves Duffy for rival promotion Florida Wrestling Dystopia and the vengeful promoter Gully (O’Malley).

Heels season 2 is poised to pick up on other lingering stories, such as what happens after the underappreciated Crystal Tyler (Kelli Berglund) got all the spotlight all to herself. In a shocking moment, and after being overlooked by almost everyone in the DWL, Crystal wins the promotion’s top championship, but the smooth sailing may not last for long.

On a personal note, Jack’s obsessive focus on wrestling caused his wife, Staci Spade (Alison Luff), to reach a breaking point and hint at a separation. The Starz drama will also continue to feature real-life wrestlers. Along with Mendez, current AEW star CM Punk will be back as Ricky Rabies and is confirmed to have a more expanded part in the story. Heels season 1 was well-reviewed, even making a late play as one of the best 2021 shows, so its second outing appears well-positioned to build on that momentum.
