Lower Decks’ Shaxs Takes on a Klingon Army in New Special

Star Trek: Lower Decks Shaxs takes on an army of Klingons in a brand-new special. Shaxs, the USS Cerritos’ chief of security, recently joined the franchise-spanning god war running through IDW’s line of Star Trek comics. This war will culminate in Star Trek’s first-ever comic crossover, titled Day of Blood, and this September, Shaxs will leap into the fray in the one-shot Star Trek: Day of Blood – Shaxs’ Best Day, where he will take on a horde of Kahless’ Red Path Klingons.

The special one shot: Star Trek: Day of Blood – Shaxs’ Best Day, will be written by Ryan North – who wrote last year’s acclaimed Lower Decks miniseries – and drawn by Derek Charm. The two previously worked on the criticially beloved Squirrel Girl. Enjoy the comic’s main cover (from Charm) and official summary below:

You’ve seen Captains Benjamin Sisko and Worf with their crews of the U.S.S. Theseus and Defiant stop the fascist, god-killing clone Kahless II from declaring war on non-followers across the galaxy in a brutal battle on Qo’noS. But you haven’t seen it from the eyes of the man, the myth, the legend, Lieutenant Junior Grade Shaxs!

Lieutenant Junior Grade Shaxs is the chief of security aboard the USS Ceritios. Born on Bajor during the Cardassian occupation, Shaxs grew up a freedom fighter, much like his friend Kira Nerys (of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) before joining Starfleet. Recently, the Star Trek universe has been embroiled in a cosmos-spanning god war. The Klingon Emperor Kahless has begun a genocidal campaign against the god-like beings of the Star Trek universe. Kahless is seeking the Orb of Destruction, a powerful weapon forged by the Bajoran Prophets. As an expert on Bajoran artifacts, Shaxs was recruited to the god war by Captain Sisko to temporarily join the crew of the USS Theseus, which is on a mission to stop Kahless from destroying the entire cosmic order.

Lower Decks has established that while Shaxs has a heart of gold, he also has anger management issues. This anger and rage is the product of a lifetime of trauma at the hands of the Cardassian occupation, and Shaxs continually searches for outlets to process his trauma, such as making pottery as well as combat games. Shaxs spent most of his life fighting fascism, and now with the galaxy under siege by a fascist death cult, he must fight once again. However, as Lower Decks fans know, Shaxs is more than capable of handling himself against nearly any opponent. The issue will include a variant cover from Lower Decks animator Robby Cook, above.

Star Trek: Day of Blood – Shaxs’ Best Day shows just how far the franchise’s god war spans. Many incarnations of the franchise are featured in Star Trek and its spin-off Star Trek: Defiant – all united together to stop Kahless from destroying the universe. Now, with the inclusion of Shaxs, the god war is touching even the light-hearted and humorous Lower Decks. Shaxs must find the strength to take on a horde of Klingons – and have his best day in the process.

Star Trek: Day of Blood – Shaxs’ Best Day is coming September 27 from IDW Publishing.
