Last Ronin Reveals How Michelangelo Became the Deadliest Brother

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – The Lost Years #3-#4

As their names would suggest, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are incredibly dangerous fighters, and Michelangelo – the famed Last Ronin – ultimately becomes the most dangerous of them all. A hardened warrior and the last remaining Ninja Turtle, the youngest of the four brothers eventually ages into the deadliest of the bunch, despite his historically immature nature. But just how exactly Mikey learned the skills necessary to become the Last Ronin is only just now being revealed.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – The Lost Years #3 by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, SL Gallant, Maria Keane, and Ben Bishop tells the story of how a blinded Michelangelo learns how to regain his fighting abilities without the use of his sight. The issue itself ends with the aged Mikey – sight renewed – captured by mysterious assailants. And the description for issue #4 of the series by the same creative team gives readers an idea of just what to expect as the youngest Hero In A Half-Shell will be “forced to take part in a gladiatorial competition with fighters from all over the world.” And with such varied an unending combat experience, it’s no wonder that the Last Ronin became the deadly warrior fans know him to be.

A Blind Ninja Turtle Is Still A Ninja Turtle

Last Ronin Training

After Michelangelo loses his sight thanks to radioactive fallout, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – The Lost Years #3 finds the titular turtle training under the tutelage of the blind master Chormagan Noyan. Eventually, Michelangelo readjusts to his new reality, regaining years of combat skills without his eyesight. But even with his vision restored, it’s inarguable that learning how to fight blind is an incredible skill that no doubt adds to the Last Ronin’s catalogue of combat abilities.

Likewise, the fact that fans now know that Michelangelo will be forced to battle combatants with various styles from around the world further explains just how deadly he will inevitably become. The Turtles are all master fighters, but putting Mikey’s Ninjitsu skills up against a gauntlet of foes with skills and styles that the hero potentially hasn’t seen before exposes the eventual Ronin to more combat than his brothers could ever have imagined. And in so doing, this forges the jokester of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into their deadliest weapon.

Michelangelo may be the youngest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but the origin of Last Ronin demonstrates just how far Mikey evolves. While he may not be the first Hero In A Half-Shell that fans think of when it comes to the deadliest brothers, the youngest Turtle clearly went through more than anyone realized. And The Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesMichelangelo is living proof of just how far a team’s comedic relief can be pushed before he becomes the most dangerous member of all.
