This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

Matthew Belloni, an expert on all things Hollywood, roasts Lucasfilm’s lack of any real strategy for the the continuation of the Indiana Jones franchise. After Raiders of the Lost Ark introduced Harrison Ford’s intrepid archeologist back in 1981, the hero has now appeared in four sequels. Now, Ford is set to bid farewell to the role with the upcoming fifth movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but it’s not clear what will become of the franchise following its release.

Ahead of the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny release date later this month, Belloni talks on his podcast The Town about how a number of big franchises are currently in a somewhat troubled state. One of Belloni’s targets is Lucasfilm and Indiana Jones, with the Hollywood insider discussing the lack of any real plan following Ford’s imminent departure. Check out Belloni’s full comment or listen to the podcast episode below:

“That’s not even a franchise. [Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny] is just a one-off cash grab. That’s like, ‘We gotta get Harrison Ford into another one of these things before he croaks.’ There’s not going to be a follow-up to this. Do you think Phoebe Waller-Bridge is going to take the mantle of Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones sequels?

“In true Lucasfilm fashion, there is no plan. They don’t have this setup for five other movies. This is just, ‘Let’s get this out. Let’s figure out how to make one last one with Harrison Ford, then we’ll figure out… Maybe we do another Young Indiana Jones series, maybe we try to introduce someone else playing a different version of the character.’ I don’t think the plan is to do a new Indiana Jones movie with Phoebe Waller-Bridge.”

More to come…
