GoT Creators’ New Show Is A Mind-Bending, Time Warping Sci-Fi Epic

A new trailer for Netflix’s 3 Body Problem teases a mind-bending and time-twisting sci-fi epic from the creators of Game of Thrones. Adapted from Liu Cixin’s novel The Three-Body Problem, the series will focus on Wang Miao, a Chinese physicist who infiltrates a group called The Frontiers of Science to investigate a series of suicides within the group. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will serve as executive producers on the series.

Now, Netflix has released a trailer for 3 Body Problem at Tudum, showcasing a high-octane sci-fi adventure.

The trailer hints at many strange events throughout the series, some of which may be extraterrestrial in origin. In addition, the trailer confirms 3 Body Problem will be released in January 2024.

What To Expect From 3 Body Problem

The main character looking straightforward in 3 Body Problem

While 3 Body Problem season 1 will focus on the first book of Cixin’s trilogy, the series is expected to eventually adapt all three books. However, 3 Body Problem season 1 will set the stage for the series, delivering a scientifically-engrossing story alongside engaging characters and stories. This is because, as Wang investigates The Frontiers of Science, he becomes friends with Ye Wenjie, an astrophysicist who opens up about her secret work at a radar base in China. Ye’s daughter was one of many suicides within the group Wang is investigating, bringing the pair together.

3 Body Problem features a large cast of characters, including Rosiland Chao as Ye Wenjie. Other cast members include Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Jovan Adepo (Babylon), Eiza González (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), and Ben Schnetzer (Y: The Last Man). The series will also see Benioff and Weiss reunite with Game of Thrones alum John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, and Jonathan Pryce, all of whom played major roles in the fantasy series.

While Benioff and Weiss have experience creating fantasy shows thanks to Game of Thrones, 3 Body Problem will see the duo dip their toes into a science fiction setting. Given the lukewarm reception to Game of Thrones season 8, it’s unclear how 3 Body Problem will be received by viewers. However, the critical acclaim of the early seasons of Game of Thrones means 3 Body Problem may still provide an interesting sci-fi epic that faithfully adapts Cixin’s book for Netflix audiences.
