Ahsoka’s Transformation & Power Increase Teased By Star Wars Actor

Rosario Dawson hints at Ahsoka Tano’s Gandalf transformation in the upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ TV show. From the first moment Ahsoka Tano was introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars to her last scene in Star Wars Rebels, Ahsoka has grown from an overly confident and passionate fighter to one of Star Wars’ wisest, most compassionate, and level-headed heroes. Now, as Ahsoka is set to tackle her own live-action show, star Rosario Dawson hints that she is not done growing yet.

Star Wars Rebels‘ ending featured a flash-forward scene introducing a future evolution of Ahsoka, one wearing white rather than her usual gray. Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni compared this version of Ahsoka to Gandalf, but this has yet to be seen in The Mandalorian era. Now, speaking in an interview in Total Film Magazine, Rosario Dawson has suggested the transformation is coming:

‘We made a lot of Gandalf references,’ says Dawson. ‘Ahsoka the Grey… And at the end of Rebels, you get to see her in white. There is this idea of her becoming wiser, more settled in herself, and kind of exploring herself and developing in a way that I think is really remarkable for someone of that level of prowess and skill and aptitude – that there are still places to reach towards. There’s still more wisdom.’

In J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, the wizard Gandalf is transformed after he dies in battle with a monstrous Balrog. He returns as Gandalf the White, with greater power and far broader knowledge. Dawson’s comments may imply a similar arc.

Is Star Wars About To Tell The Story Of Ahsoka’s Gandalf Transformation?

Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars Rebels.

Ahsoka is still wearing gray in The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett, and promotional material for Ahsoka has shown her back in gray. Ahsoka seems to be retconning Star Wars Rebels‘ ending, with previous shots showing what appears to be a recreation of this epilogue – with Ahsoka in gray. It’s reasonable to assume Lucasfilm now intend to show the transformation into Ahsoka the White.

Ahsoka has experience of mystical Force realms, notably Mortis and the World Between Worlds, and these will undoubtedly have affected how she views the Force and her place within it. There are plenty of mysteries left to untangle, and the comparison between Ahsoka and Gandalf suggests they involve dramatic evolution for her. This will presumably broaden her knowledge of the Force, as well as increase her power. There may be a high price to pay, however, and Ahsoka will test that.
